Is it really Wednesday again already?? I guess it is. The summer is flying by! But since it is Wednesday, that means it's time to link up with Michelle at The Vintage Apple for Oh, How Pinteresting Wednesday. Before I get to the pins, though, I want to tell you about a Gussy Sews birthday bash giveaway right here. She has put together 4 very cute prize packages for the winners, so go check it out! And now, some of my favorite pins for the week:

America by Samuel F. Smith

My country 'tis of Thee
Sweet Land of Liberty
Of Thee I sing

Paying Respect

Paying respect is something you just don't see as much these days, so it makes me so happy when I witness it. It's a cliche, but little things do mean so much, and I saw the neatest little thing yesterday...

My uncle Zane passed away this week (my Mom's brother) and his funeral was held yesterday. I had ridden with my Mom and Dad, and on the way back from the funeral home I was pleased to see that many people in our town still pull off the road as a show of respect for the funeral procession. However, I made the remark to Momma and Daddy that you sure don't see it as often as you used to.

Once we left city limits, we made our way to the community where we live (up on the river, as we call it). After we got a few miles in, we passed a young man who was probably in his late 20's who had been mowing his yard. He stopped working as the procession drove by. He didn't walk back up to the porch or go inside, though. Instead, he took off his ball cap, held it against his chest, and stood by his mower while watching us pass.

I'm sure he didn't have a clue who was being taken to the cemetery that day. He could have just finished up his mowing and went about his day. But this young man respected the fact that someone had passed on, leaving a family who was grieving in his absence and decided to honor them in a simple, powerful way. It certainly made an impression on my Mom, Dad, and me. I guess his gesture wasn't such a small thing after all.

What little (or not so little) ways do you show respect?

Have a wonderful weekend,

If you haven't heard of Pinterest yet, well then you need to run on over and take a look. If you need an invite, just let me know! It's addictive, though. :) You can follow my boards at pinterest.com/callmekaro.

I kind of had to scramble at the last minute to update my pins this week, because I've been a little MIA due to some kind of vicious stomach bug. Anyway, here are some of my favorite things this week:

I love this wooden basket re-purposed to hold picnic items!

This cottage-style kitchen is dreamy.

I've followed this Etsy shop's Twitter account for a while, and I love these Ukrainian Pysanka eggs. She also has vases made from eggs too. They're gorgeous!

How pretty (and yummy-looking) are these pastel homemade peppermint patties?

I think I could possibly learn to love laundry chores in a laundry room like this one. Maybe.

And finally, this just made me laugh...

That's it for this week. I used embedded links this time to link straight back to the pin, but it's totally messed up my font. Which is making me cranky. Anyhoo, can't wait to see what everyone else has been pinning this week!

Until next time,
